abstract = "The work presentes the development of a methodology for zoning
fire risk to river watershed Ribeir{\~a}o Faxinal stream, located
in the municipality of Len{\c{c}}{\'o}is Paulista/SP. The
Geographical Information System was used for the preparation the
risk maps of the land-use/occupation, road system, terrain slope,
terrain orientation and hydrography. Each factor was weighted
separately and, subsequently, factor weights were defined, as
defined by Saaty (1977). Finally, the generated maps of each
factor were integrated in a single map showing the fire risk areas
of the watershed. The results indicated the risk of fire Very Low
0.58%, Low 14.39%, Medium 45.12%, High 9.60% and Very High 30.31%
of the total Of the basin area. The Very High and Medium risk
classes deserve greater attention, when added up, since they
represent more than half the area of the watershed and for such
classes it is necessary a planning and other preventive practices
to fire fighting, to guarantee efficiency in the management of the
area.",
